Hardware and Software Topics in Arts

Hardware and Software Topics in Arts is a two course sequence that deals with programming, electronics design and basic machining applications in the context of fine arts. Everything from interactive environments, robotic sculpture to computer-assisted painting and impact of programing technologies on areas such as printmaking or photographic practice is considered.

INTRO course introduces you to basic programming and electronics techniques and extends your exploration of critical cross-media framework for analysis and creation of artwork.

SECOND SEMESTER course continues technical exploration with introduction to fabrication techniques (kinetics/robotics) and more advanced electronics/programming examples. You will work towards a directed final project of your choice, which should reflect both technical knowledge gained during the two semester sequence and understanding of contemporary art issues.

It's absolutely essential to check out as much art work that has been done by electromechanical means as possible while taking this class! otherwise we are in danger of making bad engineering demos :)
